Another Valentine’s Day又逢情人節
For some people they did not know what a Valentine’s day (for lovers in western style) means until 1960s. For others they found people celebrating the festival when growing up.
For younger people in love, their love for someone increases as they grow older with the coming of each Valentine. What they are pursuing is maturity in their love while senior citizens are looking for eternity in love.
“One day when we were young in a wonderful morning in May, you told me you love me. And we were young and gay.” Now time flies, and we have walked most of our life paths. One more Valentine’s day does bring more fun and joy. But in the meantime we are one day closer to our life’s end in journey. All the wonderful Valentines we have enjoyed shall become nothing but a memory someday.
People begin their preliminary Valentine experience by holding each other’s hand, then ‘putting your head on the shoulder’, then ‘whispering in the ear, and then holding or ‘squeezing’ each other in arms, and then enjoying French kisses……Someone says, 「天涯地角有窮時,此情綿綿無絕期」 – ‘the universe is finite; this love is endless.’ It seems strange that a love discontinued is at times more enjoyable than a married one. A sweet Valentine’s Day is welcome of course, but a“Dear John” letter before it is disheartening.
In our life, we might have more than one Valentine however long we spent together. If happily together, we enjoy ourselves. If not, we might still pretend to have a wonderful time. Sometimes, we’d like to be a pretender, ‘pretending we’re happy when we’re blue. Isn’t it very hard to do…’.
We really don’t want to ‘remember’ how many people we were once in love with; how many persons we have kissed before, ‘setting their soul aglow…’ And yet, regrettably, a romance may break up before another chapter of love is to be continued.
Someone says that the world is a stage and we’ve got to play a part. But some people leave the stage before the curtain falls, leaving some lines of theirs unsaid. No one knows what they mean to say. Indeed, there is only one way to be born to the world, but numerous ways of deceasing from the earth.
As Valentine’s day is coming, it brings lots of moments, sweet or sour, sad or joyful, hilarious or tragic….
Have a Happy Valentine’s Day to You!
