英語日常誤用的詞語

1. I'm feeling hunger pains, which is causing me some hunger-related pain.

我餓的發荒，它正引發與飢餓有關的病痛

正確：hunger pangs

另註：pang 指突然之痛苦，the ~ of death; 悲痛/悔恨the ~ of conscience良心的譴責。

pains= 辛勞，No pains, no gains. 沒有不勞而獲。現在有人用：No pain, no gain. 比較：

No cross, no crown. 沒有苦難，即無榮耀。Spare no pains. 不遺餘力。

2. All these exposed butts are a problem. I need you to nip it in the butt.

這些暴露的樹幹是問題。須要你及時先移除。

正確：bud n. 芽，nip in the bud胎死腹中

另註：butt n. 樹木的殘幹或(美語)= 屁股，嘲弄的對象

3. Our goat escaped, and I'm using you as a escape goat

我們的羊逃跑了，那麼我們會將你來頂罪。

正確：scapegoat.(替罪者)

4. I have a deep-seeded belief that all pigeons are evil.

本人深深以為所有鴿子是邪惡的。

正確：deep-seated, 根深蒂固/由來已久； a ~ disease痼疾

事實上，本項物品乃今日在網路上看到最好的。

正確：to (for) intents and purposes, = to all intents就各點來看；事實上

註：intensive a. 強烈的

正確：espresso

註：express line 超市內快速通關櫃檯。

7. It's a doggy-dog world out there, just ask Snoop Doggy Dogg.

正確：dog-eat-dog互相殘害

8. He said "tongue and cheek," but it was just a tongue-in-cheek joke.

= speak with one’s tongue in the cheek

註：down to the brass tacks作副詞片語用, 其義為dealing with essentials= concerned with practical realities= 針對實際去做
